Puppy Obedience Training

Start Smart. Build the Bond. Raise a Well-Mannered Dog.

The Most Important Training Starts Early

The first few months of your puppy’s life are critical. It’s when they learn how to behave, build confidence, and form habits that will last for years. That’s why my puppy obedience training program is designed to give you and your pup the very best start — using kind, modern methods that lay the foundation for a happy, well-adjusted dog.

Whether you’re raising a first-time puppy or looking to correct early behaviour struggles, I’ll work with you one-on-one to guide your dog through their most important learning window.

What Puppy Obedience Training Covers

Training is fully customised based on your puppy’s age, breed, lifestyle, and environment. Common focus areas include:

  • Basic obedience cues (sit, down, stay, come, heel)

  • Crate training and sleeping through the night

  • Toilet training routines and timing

  • Gentle lead walking (see Lead Dog Training for advanced leash manners)

  • Confidence-building through socialisation

  • Manners around people, children, and other dogs

  • Prevention of jumping, biting, barking, and chewing

  • Managing overstimulation and puppy zoomies

  • Calmness at mealtimes, doorways, and in new spaces

We also introduce recall foundations and early disengagement work that can be expanded on in Recall Training and Reactive Dog Training later, if needed.

Common Issues We Address

Each session is built around your dog’s needs and your daily routines. Common areas of focus include:

  • Lead pulling or lunging on walks

  • Ignoring recall in parks or open spaces

  • Reactivity toward dogs, people, or noise

  • Overexcitement when visitors arrive

  • Barking at fences or out the window

  • Lack of focus in busy areas (town, events, outdoor cafés)

  • Separation anxiety or difficulty settling at home

  • Basic obedience and consistent commands (sit, down, stay, come, heel)

No problem is too small or too advanced — every dog can learn better behaviour with the right approach and environment.

Key Skills Taught in One-to-One Sessions

Obedience and Control
Dogs learn reliable cues like sit, stay, recall, down, leave it, and heel — with increasing levels of distraction based on your dog's progress.

Focus and Engagement
We teach your dog how to tune into you, even around other dogs, people, or environmental distractions.

Confidence Building
Anxious or unsure dogs are gradually exposed to noise, surfaces, and social situations to help them feel safe and capable.

Impulse Control
Your dog will learn how to calmly observe instead of reacting, helping with door manners, greetings, and settling around stimuli.

Public Behaviour and Manners
If you enjoy café trips or town walks, we can build polite, settled behaviour in real-world social settings.

50+ Dogs Trained across Cornwall already recently.

I have a shepherd mix—a high-drive working dog—who, when we started, was reactive to almost everything: vehicles, other dogs, cats, livestock, birds… Just a few months after starting our sessions, I can now walk her along busy roads and even took her to a dog show, something I never thought possible. This progress simply wouldn’t have happened if I’d stuck with the ‘positive only’ trainers I’d tried before.

Your puppy will learn to self-settle, wait patiently, and stay calm when it counts — the early steps toward the control we build in Lead and Protection training.
